Objective: Students will be able to identify and use adjectives to describe nouns in sentences.

Materials: - Whiteboard or chart paper - Markers - Adjective flashcards or word cards - Worksheets or handouts with sentences for practice

Introduction (10 minutes): 1. Begin the lesson by asking students if they know what an adjective is. Write the definition on the board: “An adjective is a word that describes or gives more information about a noun.” 2. Show students a few examples of adjectives and ask them to identify the nouns they are describing. For example, show a picture of a cat and ask students to describe it using adjectives like “fluffy,” “small,” or “playful.” 3. Explain that adjectives can be used to describe the size, shape, color, or other qualities of a noun.

Instruction (15 minutes): 1. Introduce a few different types of adjectives and provide examples for each: - Size: big, small, tall, short - Shape: round, square, rectangular, triangular - Color: red, blue, green, yellow - Texture: soft, rough, smooth, bumpy - Opinion: delicious, beautiful, fun, scary 2. Write these examples on the board and ask students to come up with their own examples for each type of adjective. 3. Use flashcards or word cards to review the adjectives. Show a card and ask students to use it in a sentence to describe a noun.

Guided Practice (15 minutes): 1. Provide students with worksheets or handouts that contain sentences with missing adjectives. For example: “The ___ cat chased the mouse.” 2. Ask students to fill in the blanks with an appropriate adjective from a given list or from their own choice. 3. Review the answers as a class and discuss why each adjective fits in the sentence.

Independent Practice (15 minutes): 1. Give students a set of sentences and ask them to underline the adjectives in each sentence. 2. Have students write their own sentences using adjectives to describe different nouns. 3. Circulate the classroom to provide assistance and check for understanding.

Conclusion (5 minutes): 1. Review the concept of adjectives and ask students to share one sentence they wrote using an adjective. 2. Summarize the importance of adjectives in making sentences more descriptive and interesting. 3. Encourage students to use adjectives in their writing to make it more engaging.

Extension Activity: 1. Play a game of “Adjective Charades” where students act out a noun and their classmates have to guess the adjective that describes it. 2. Have students create adjective posters or flashcards to display in the classroom for future reference. 3. Assign a writing task where students have to write a short paragraph describing a favorite animal or object using adjectives.
