To add and subtract decimals, follow these steps:

  1. Align the decimal points of the numbers you are adding or subtracting.
  2. If necessary, add zeros to the right of the decimal point to make the numbers have the same number of decimal places.
  3. Add or subtract the numbers as you would with whole numbers, ignoring the decimal point.
  4. Place the decimal point in the answer directly below the decimal points in the numbers being added or subtracted.
  5. If there are any remaining digits after the decimal point, continue placing them in the answer.

Example 1: Adding Decimals 0.25 + 0.75 = 1.00

Example 2: Subtracting Decimals 2.5 - 1.25 = 1.25
