In the first quarter of the 2016 fiscal year, the Attorney General’s Office implemented various activities to ensure the rule of law, prosecute criminals, and recover stolen assets. These activities included the execution of investigative records cleaning in organized and cross-border crimes, corruption, economic crimes, and various other crimes. A total of 13,783 investigative records were handled by prosecutors, with decisions made on 12,106 records and 1,677 records transferred to the next month without processing.

In terms of dispute records, a total of 17,886 case files were under dispute in organized and cross-border crimes, corruption, economic crimes, and various other crimes. Out of the 3,034 cases reviewed and decided by the court, 2,942 cases resulted in guilty verdicts and sentences, while 92 cases were acquitted. The average penalty rate in records was 97%, exceeding the 96.5% target set in the plan.

Regarding defendants, out of 21,748 individuals charged, 5,719 were convicted and 5,513 were convicted and sentenced, while 196 were acquitted. The average conviction rate for defendants reached 96.3%, surpassing the 94.5% target set in the plan.

The Attorney General’s Office also focused on respecting the constitutional rights of convicts and suspected prisoners in prisons and police shelters. A total of 3,575 visits were conducted to ensure their rights were respected and their living conditions were comfortable.

Overall, the implementation of the plan in the first quarter showed strong performance in achieving the set goals. However, weaknesses were also identified, and future focus areas were outlined for improvement.
