Title: Creating Twit-tastic Pranks!
Grade Level: Year 3
Objective: - To develop creativity and imagination by creating original pranks inspired by the book “The Twits.” - To practice sentence construction and expand vocabulary using colorful semantics or sentence stems. - To collaborate in groups to create mind maps of different pranks Mr. Twit can use to prank Mrs. Twit.
Materials: - Copies of the book “The Twits” by Roald Dahl - Chart paper or whiteboard - Markers - Sentence stems or colorful semantics cards (for differentiation) - Large paper or poster boards for mind maps - Art supplies (colored pencils, markers, etc.)
Procedure:

Introduction (10 minutes): a. Begin by discussing the book “The Twits” and the pranks Mr. Twit and Mrs. Twit play on each other. b. Ask students to share their favorite pranks from the book and why they found them amusing. c. Explain that today, they will have the opportunity to create their very own pranks inspired by Mr. Twit.
- Sentence Construction (15 minutes):
a. Differentiation: For students who may need support, provide colorful semantics cards or sentence stems to help them generate sentences.
b. Display a chart paper or whiteboard with sentence stems or colorful semantics cards.
c. Model how to use the sentence stems or colorful semantics to construct sentences about pranks. For example:
- “Mr. Twit could put [object] in [location] to scare Mrs. Twit.”
- “Mrs. Twit might find [object] in her [food] and get a surprise!” d. Allow students to work individually or in pairs to create their own sentences using the provided sentence stems or colorful semantics cards.

Group Mind Maps (20 minutes): a. Divide the class into small groups (3-4 students per group). b. Provide each group with large paper or poster boards and art supplies. c. Instruct the groups to create a mind map of different pranks Mr. Twit can use to prank Mrs. Twit. d. Encourage students to think creatively and come up with unique and funny ideas. e. Remind students to label and illustrate their mind maps to make them visually appealing.

Group Presentations (15 minutes): a. Have each group present their mind maps to the class. b. Allow students to explain their prank ideas and why they think they would be funny. c. Encourage the class to provide positive feedback and suggestions for improvement.
- Reflection and Extension (5 minutes): a. Ask students to reflect on the activity and share what they enjoyed most about creating their own pranks. b. Discuss the importance of playing pranks in a lighthearted and harmless manner. c. As an extension, encourage students to write a short story or comic strip featuring their favorite prank from their mind map.
