A team of archaeologists has made an amazing discovery in the eastern Mediterranean: a group of ships from different time periods that were lost deep underwater. The Enigma Shipwrecks Project used advanced technology to explore and document the finds, which could change our understanding of history. One of the wrecks is a massive Ottoman merchant ship from the 17th century, which was so large that it could hold two normal-sized ships on its deck. It contained a wide range of artifacts from 14 different cultures, including Chinese porcelain, Italian jugs, and Indian peppercorns. This ship reveals a previously unknown trade route from China to Persia, the Red Sea, and the eastern Mediterranean. It provides a glimpse into the beginnings of globalization, with goods from all over the world. The discovery of coffee cups and pots on the ship challenges the idea that Europe invented civility, as the Ottomans were already drinking coffee before it became popular in Europe. This groundbreaking find has pushed the boundaries of underwater exploration and has greatly advanced our knowledge in the field.
