Objective: To help students get to know each other better and build a sense of community within the classroom.

Materials needed: Paper, pens/pencils

Procedure: 1. Begin the lesson by explaining to the students that it is important for them to get to know each other in order to build a positive and supportive classroom environment. 2. Ask each student to write down three interesting facts about themselves on a piece of paper. Encourage them to think outside the box and share unique things about themselves. 3. Once everyone has written down their facts, have the students crumple up their papers into balls. 4. Divide the class into two teams and have them stand on opposite sides of the room. 5. Explain that this activity is called “Getting to Know You Ball Toss.” The objective is for each team to toss their crumpled papers to the other team’s side of the room. 6. When you say “go,” the teams will start tossing the papers back and forth, trying to keep as many papers on the other team’s side as possible. 7. After a few minutes, call “stop” and have the students pick up one paper from the other team’s side. 8. Each student will then take turns reading one of the interesting facts written on the paper they picked up. The student who wrote the fact will raise their hand and introduce themselves to the class. 9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 until all the papers have been read and all the students have been introduced. 10. After the activity, lead a class discussion about what they learned about their classmates and how this activity helped them get to know each other better. 11. Encourage the students to continue building relationships with their classmates throughout the year by asking questions, listening actively, and showing genuine interest in each other’s lives.

Extension activity: - Have the students pair up and interview each other, taking turns asking questions and sharing their answers with the class. - Create a class “Get to Know You” bulletin board where students can post pictures, drawings, or written descriptions of themselves and their interests.
