Title: “Making a Difference in Our Community”
Grade Level: 9-12
Objective: Students will engage in community service learning to understand the importance of giving back to their community and develop skills in leadership, teamwork, and communication.
Materials: - List of local community service organizations - Reflection journal - Evaluation rubric
Procedure:

Introduction (10 minutes) - Begin by discussing the importance of community service and how it can make a difference in the lives of others. - Ask students to share any experiences they have had with community service and how it impacted them.

Research (20 minutes) - Provide students with a list of local community service organizations. - In small groups, have students research and choose an organization they would like to work with. - Have each group present their chosen organization to the class and explain why they chose it.

Planning (30 minutes) - Have each group create a plan for their community service project, including goals, tasks, and timelines. - Encourage students to think creatively and come up with unique ways to make a difference in their community.

Implementation (2-3 hours) - Have students carry out their community service project. - Encourage them to take photos and document their experience in their reflection journal.

Reflection (20 minutes) - Have students reflect on their community service experience in their reflection journal. - Ask them to consider what they learned, how they felt, and how they made a difference in their community.

Evaluation (10 minutes) - Use the evaluation rubric to assess each group’s community service project. - Provide feedback and encourage students to continue making a difference in their community.
Assessment:
Students will be evaluated based on their participation in the research, planning, and implementation of their community service project, as well as their reflection journal entries. The evaluation rubric will assess their leadership, teamwork, communication, and overall impact on their community.
