Lesson 1: Movement Objective: Students will learn basic forehand and backhand strokes to hit and return the ball. Materials: Tennis racquets, tennis balls Warm-Up: Agility/movement drills along with some stretching and dynamic stretching Activity: 1.Standing in the ready position 2.Demonstrate forehand and backhand strokes 3.Practice hitting the ball back and forth Game: Serve and Volley drill- serves and volleys to get accustomed to rally Cool Down: More stretching and dynamic stretching
Lesson 2: Footwork Objective: Students will learn the importance of balance and weight distribution when hitting a ball. Materials: Tennis racquets, tennis balls Warm-Up: Agility/movement drills, running drills with emphasis on proper footwork Activity: 1.Demonstrate how to make small steps when hitting a forehand and backhand 2.Demonstrate how to make lateral steps to move laterally 3.Demonstrate how to step into the ball with proper weight distribution 4.Practice shifting balance from one foot to the other Game: Hit around drill- practice footwork by hitting to each student and moving a few steps with each shot Cool Down: Stretching and dynamic stretching
Lesson 3: Technique Objective: Students will learn proper technique and hand positioning when hitting a ball Materials: Tennis racquets, tennis balls Warm-Up: Agility/movement drills, dynamic stretching Activity: 1.Demonstrate proper grip 2.Demonstrate proper hand positioning 3.Demonstrate a good follow through after hitting the ball 4.Practice the stroke with correct technique Game: Follow the leader drill- Students take turns leading the group by demonstrating a shot and having everyone copy them Cool Down : Stretching and dynamic stretching
