Complex Writing Prompts for Fifth Graders

  1. Write a story about a character who is faced with a difficult moral dilemma. What is the dilemma? How does the character make their decision? What are the consequences of their choice?
  2. Imagine that you are a scientist who has discovered a new planet. Describe the planet and its inhabitants. What kind of research would you conduct there?
  3. Write a research paper about a historical figure who has made a significant impact on the world. What were their accomplishments? What challenges did they face? How did they overcome them?
