Objective: At the end of this lesson, participants will be able to identify and use the key principles of servant leadership to create a more motivated, empowered, and productive work environment.

Introduction:

Begin the session by introducing yourself and having participants do the same. Ask people to explain what their new roles as managers mean to them.

Discuss the purpose of servant leadership, including the idea that helping people reach their potential involves motivating, inspiring, and providing support to create trust.

Describe the four core components of servant leadership:

1) Listening: Servant leaders actively listen to their team members to better understand their needs and concerns.

2) Empathy: Servant leaders put themselves in the shoes of their team members and genuinely understand their needs, personalities, and emotions.

3) Awareness: Being aware of the power differentials between managers and employees is essential to successful servant leadership.

4) Stewardship: Servant leaders are responsible for the development of their employees and supportive of them throughout their journey.

Activity:

Divide the participants into small groups and have them brainstorm examples of how they can embody the primary qualities of servant leadership in their roles as managers. Participants should discuss times when they can demonstrate empathy, must use the appropriate power dynamics, and how to act as stewards to their employees.

Have each group share their examples with the larger group and facilitate a discussion about each of the topics.

Closing:

To close the session, ask each participant to name one action they are going to take to practice servant leadership. Provide resources, such as articles and videos, to remind participants of what they learned in the lesson and challenge them to put servant leadership into practice.

End the session with an overall reflection on the importance of servant leadership and how it can create a more effective and satisfying work environment. Encourage participants to seek out guidance and ask questions if they need help implementing servant leadership in the workplace.
