Day 1: Introduction to Family Members

Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to describe family members including their job, height, body build, hair color and length, eye color, and size. They will also be able to form a family tree and understand the different relationships between family members.

Materials: - Whiteboard or blackboard - Markers or chalk - Handouts with family tree templates - Pictures or flashcards of family members (optional)

Procedure: 1. Warm-up (5 minutes): - Begin the lesson by asking students to share the names of their family members. - Write the names on the board and ask students to describe one physical characteristic of each family member they mentioned.

  1. Vocabulary Introduction (10 minutes):
    • Introduce vocabulary related to family members, such as father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, etc.
    • Teach additional vocabulary related to physical characteristics, such as job, height, body build, hair color and length, eye color, and size.
    • Write the new vocabulary words on the board and provide simple definitions or explanations.
  2. Describing Family Members (15 minutes):
    • Show pictures or flashcards of family members (if available) and ask students to describe their physical characteristics using the vocabulary introduced.
    • Encourage students to use complete sentences and provide examples if needed.
    • Write some example sentences on the board to help students understand the structure and vocabulary usage.
  3. Family Tree Activity (15 minutes):
    • Distribute handouts with family tree templates to each student.
    • Explain how to fill in the family tree by starting with themselves and then adding their immediate family members.
    • Instruct students to include the physical characteristics of each family member they add to the tree.
    • Circulate around the classroom to provide assistance and answer any questions.
  4. Wrap-up and Homework (5 minutes):
    • Review the new vocabulary words and ask students to summarize what they have learned about describing family members.
    • Assign homework: Ask students to interview a family member and gather information about their physical characteristics. They should be prepared to share this information in the next class.

Day 2: Family Relationships and Review

Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand and describe the different relationships between family members. They will also review the vocabulary and concepts learned in the previous lesson.

Materials: - Whiteboard or blackboard - Markers or chalk - Family tree templates from the previous lesson - Handouts with review questions

Procedure: 1. Warm-up (5 minutes): - Begin the lesson by reviewing the vocabulary words related to family members and physical characteristics. - Ask students to recall the physical characteristics they gathered from their family members for homework.

  1. Review of Family Tree and Physical Characteristics (10 minutes):
    • Ask students to share their family trees and the physical characteristics they gathered from their family members.
    • Encourage students to use the vocabulary words and describe the relationships between family members.
  2. Introduction to Family Relationships (10 minutes):
    • Introduce vocabulary related to family relationships, such as grandparents, cousins, nephew, niece, etc.
    • Write the new vocabulary words on the board and provide simple definitions or explanations.
    • Use the family trees from the previous lesson to demonstrate the relationships between family members.
  3. Family Relationships Activity (15 minutes):
    • Distribute handouts with review questions to each student.
    • Instruct students to answer the questions by using the vocabulary words related to family relationships.
