Introduction (10 minutes): 1. Present the definition of possessive nouns: nouns that show ownership or possession. 2. Explain the rules for forming possessive nouns: a. For singular nouns, add an apostrophe and an “s” (‘s) at the end. b. For plural nouns ending in “s,” add only an apostrophe (‘). c. For plural nouns not ending in “s,” add an apostrophe and an “s” (‘s) at the end. 3. Provide examples for each rule and write them on the board.

Guided Practice (10 minutes): 1. Distribute handouts with possessive noun rules and examples. 2. Read aloud a sentence and ask students to identify the possessive noun(s) and explain the rule used. 3. Repeat this process with a few more sentences, encouraging students to participate and discuss their answers.

Group Work (15 minutes): 1. Divide the class into small groups of 3-4 students. 2. Distribute worksheets with sentences containing missing possessive nouns. 3. Instruct each group to work together to identify the missing possessive noun(s) and write them correctly in the sentences. 4. Encourage students to discuss and explain their choices within their groups. 5. Monitor the groups, providing assistance and clarification as needed.

Wrap-up (5 minutes): 1. Bring the class back together and have each group share one sentence they worked on, explaining their reasoning. 2. Discuss any common mistakes or challenges encountered during the group work. 3. Summarize the rules for forming possessive nouns and provide additional examples if necessary. 4. Conclude the lesson by reviewing the importance of using possessive nouns correctly in writing.

Extension Activity (optional): For homework or additional practice, assign students to write a short paragraph using possessive nouns. They should underline the possessive nouns and explain the rule used for each one.
