Activity: David & Jonathan - Best Friends Forever
Desired Outcome: As I play and learn, I am developing my understanding of what is fair and unfair and the importance of caring for, sharing and cooperating with others.
Introduction: Begin by introducing the story of David and Jonathan from the Bible. Explain that they were best friends who cared for each other and shared everything they had. They were also loyal to each other and helped each other in times of need.
Activity 1: Sharing is Caring Provide each child with a small bag of sweets or treats. Ask them to share their treats with their friends in the class. Encourage them to share equally and to make sure that everyone gets a fair share. Discuss how it feels to share and how it makes others feel when we share with them.
Activity 2: Friendship Bracelets Provide each child with a piece of string or wool. Ask them to make a friendship bracelet for their best friend in the class. Encourage them to think about what their friend likes and to make a bracelet that reflects their friend’s personality. Discuss how it feels to give a gift to a friend and how it makes us feel when we receive a gift from a friend.
Activity 3: David & Jonathan Storytelling Read the story of David and Jonathan from the Bible or use a children’s book that tells the story. Encourage the children to listen carefully and to ask questions about the story. Discuss the importance of having a best friend and how we can be loyal and caring towards our friends.
Conclusion: Summarize the key points of the lesson and encourage the children to reflect on what they have learned. Ask them to share one thing they will do to be a better friend to someone in their class. Remind them that by caring for, sharing and cooperating with others, we can make the world a better place.
