Activity: Joseph Goes to Egypt

Desired Outcome: As I play and learn, I am developing my understanding of what is fair and unfair and the importance of caring for, sharing and cooperating with others.

Introduction: Begin by introducing the story of Joseph and his journey to Egypt. Explain that Joseph was a young man who was sold into slavery by his own brothers. Despite this unfair treatment, Joseph remained faithful to God and eventually became a powerful leader in Egypt.

Activity: 1. Role-play: Divide the class into groups and assign each group a role to play in the story of Joseph. One group can be Joseph, another group can be his brothers, and another group can be the Egyptians. Encourage the children to act out the story and discuss how each character felt during the different parts of the story.

  1. Sharing and Caring: Discuss the importance of sharing and caring for others. Ask the children to think about how Joseph shared his knowledge and skills with the Egyptians, and how he cared for his family by providing them with food during the famine. Encourage the children to share their own experiences of sharing and caring for others.

  2. Cooperation: Discuss the importance of cooperation and working together. Ask the children to think about how Joseph worked with the Egyptians to prepare for the famine, and how he worked with his brothers to reconcile their relationship. Encourage the children to work together in groups to complete a task, such as building a tower out of blocks.

Conclusion: Wrap up the activity by summarizing the story of Joseph and discussing the importance of fairness, caring, sharing, and cooperation. Encourage the children to continue to practice these values in their daily lives.
