Activity: Jesus and His Disciples

Desired Outcome: As I play and learn, I am developing my understanding of what is fair and unfair and the importance of caring for, sharing and cooperating with others.

Introduction: Begin by introducing the story of Jesus selecting his 12 disciples. Explain that Jesus chose 12 men to be his closest followers and to help him spread his message of love and kindness. Emphasize that Jesus chose people from all walks of life, including fishermen, tax collectors, and even a zealot.

Activity: 1. Role-play: Divide the children into groups of 3-4 and assign each group a character from the story of Jesus and his disciples (e.g. Peter, James, John, Matthew). Encourage the children to act out the scene where Jesus calls them to follow him. Discuss how each character might have felt when they were chosen by Jesus.

  1. Sharing and Caring: Provide the children with a basket of small toys or objects. Explain that they must work together to share the toys fairly and make sure everyone has a turn. Encourage the children to discuss how they can be fair and kind to each other, just like Jesus and his disciples.

  2. Cooperation: Set up an obstacle course using chairs, cones, and other objects. Divide the children into pairs and have them take turns guiding each other through the course while blindfolded. Discuss how important it is to trust and cooperate with others, just like Jesus and his disciples did.

Conclusion: Gather the children together and ask them to share what they learned about fairness, sharing, and cooperation from the story of Jesus and his disciples. Emphasize that these values are important in our daily lives and that we can all strive to be more like Jesus and his disciples by treating others with kindness and respect.
