Activity: Paul’s Shipwreck Adventure
Desired Outcome: As I play and learn, I am developing my understanding of what is fair and unfair and the importance of caring for, sharing and cooperating with others.
Introduction: Begin by introducing the story of Paul’s shipwreck to the children. Explain that Paul was a Christian who was traveling by ship to Rome when a storm hit and the ship was wrecked. However, Paul and all the other passengers survived and were able to make it to shore safely.
Activity: 1. Build a ship: Provide the children with materials such as cardboard boxes, paper, and markers to create their own ship. Encourage them to work together and share materials to build the ship.
-
Stormy seas: Create a “stormy sea” area using blue fabric or paper and pillows to represent waves. Have the children take turns pretending to be on the ship during the storm and navigating through the waves.
-
Shipwrecked: Once the storm has passed, have the children act out being shipwrecked on a deserted island. Encourage them to work together to build shelter and find food and water.
-
Bible story: Read the story of Paul’s shipwreck from the Bible (Acts 27:13-44). Discuss with the children how Paul and the other passengers worked together to survive and how they showed care and cooperation towards each other.
-
Reflection: Ask the children to reflect on the activity and the story of Paul’s shipwreck. Discuss with them how they showed care and cooperation towards each other during the activity and how they can apply these values in their daily lives.
Conclusion: End the activity by summarizing the importance of caring for, sharing, and cooperating with others, just like Paul and the other passengers did during the shipwreck. Encourage the children to continue to practice these values in their daily lives.
