Activity: King Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream

Desired Outcome: As I play and learn, I am developing my understanding of what is fair and unfair and the importance of caring for, sharing and cooperating with others.

Introduction: Begin by introducing the story of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream from the book of Daniel in the Bible. Explain that King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that troubled him and he wanted to know what it meant. He called upon his wise men to interpret the dream, but they were unable to do so. Then, Daniel, a young man who believed in God, was able to interpret the dream for the king.

Activity: 1. Divide the children into small groups and give each group a picture of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. Ask them to discuss what they see in the picture and what they think it means.

  1. After the discussion, ask each group to share their thoughts with the class. Encourage them to listen to each other and respect each other’s opinions.

  2. Explain that the dream was about a statue made of different materials, representing different kingdoms. The head of the statue was made of gold, the chest and arms were made of silver, the belly and thighs were made of bronze, the legs were made of iron, and the feet were made of a mixture of iron and clay.

  3. Ask the children to think about what the different materials might represent and why they were used to make the statue.

  4. Explain that Daniel interpreted the dream for King Nebuchadnezzar and told him that the different materials represented different kingdoms that would rise and fall over time. The head of gold represented King Nebuchadnezzar’s kingdom, which was the greatest at the time.

  5. Ask the children to think about how the different kingdoms might have treated each other and whether they were fair to each other.

  6. Discuss with the children the importance of treating others fairly and with respect, even if they are different from us.

Conclusion: Summarize the story of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and the importance of treating others fairly and with respect. Ask the children to think about how they can apply this lesson in their own lives, such as sharing toys with others or helping someone who is struggling. Encourage them to work together and cooperate with each other to make the world a better place.
