Activity: Jesus Calms the Storm

Desired Outcome: As I play and learn, I am developing my understanding of what is fair and unfair and the importance of caring for, sharing and cooperating with others.

Introduction: Begin by introducing the story of Jesus calming the storm to the children. Explain that Jesus was a teacher who taught people about love, kindness, and forgiveness. One day, Jesus and his disciples were in a boat when a big storm came. The disciples were scared, but Jesus calmed the storm and they were safe.

Activity: 1. Boat Building: Provide the children with materials such as cardboard, paper, and glue to build their own boats. Encourage them to work together and share materials.

  1. Stormy Sea: Create a stormy sea using blue fabric or paper. Place the boats in the sea and encourage the children to act out the story of Jesus calming the storm.

  2. Calming the Storm: Provide the children with a sensory bin filled with water and blue food coloring. Add some toy boats and encourage the children to make waves. Then, provide them with a toy Jesus figure and ask them to calm the storm by placing Jesus in the water.

  3. Discussion: After the activities, gather the children and discuss the importance of caring for, sharing, and cooperating with others. Ask them how they felt when they worked together to build their boats and act out the story. Discuss how Jesus showed love and kindness by calming the storm and how we can show love and kindness to others.

Conclusion: End the activity by singing a song or saying a prayer together. Encourage the children to continue to show love and kindness to others and to work together to make the world a better place.
