Activity: John Baptizes Jesus

Desired Outcome: As I play and learn, I am developing my understanding of what is fair and unfair and the importance of caring for, sharing and cooperating with others.

Introduction: Begin by introducing the story of John baptizing Jesus. Explain that John was a prophet who baptized people in the Jordan River, and that Jesus came to him to be baptized. This event marked the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry.

Activity: 1. Role-play: Divide the class into two groups, one group will play the role of John and the other group will play the role of Jesus. The John group will stand in a line and the Jesus group will come to them one by one to be baptized. Encourage the John group to be gentle and caring while baptizing the Jesus group. After everyone has been baptized, switch roles.

  1. Sharing: Discuss the importance of sharing and cooperating with others. Ask the children to bring in a small item from home that they can share with the class. Encourage them to explain why they chose that item and how it relates to the story of John baptizing Jesus. After everyone has shared, have a group discussion about the importance of sharing and how it can make us feel good.

  2. Art: Provide the children with paper, crayons, and markers. Ask them to draw a picture of the story of John baptizing Jesus. Encourage them to be creative and use their imagination. After everyone has finished, have a group discussion about the different interpretations of the story.

Conclusion: Wrap up the activity by summarizing the story of John baptizing Jesus and the importance of caring for, sharing, and cooperating with others. Encourage the children to continue to practice these values in their daily lives.
