Activity: The Miracle of Baby Isaac
Desired Outcome: As I play and learn, I am developing my understanding of what is fair and unfair and the importance of caring for, sharing and cooperating with others.
Introduction: Begin by introducing the story of Abraham and Sarah from the Bible. Explain that they were a couple who were very old and had no children. However, God promised them that they would have a baby, and this baby would be very special. This baby’s name was Isaac.
Activity: 1. Baby Isaac’s Arrival: Set up a pretend play area with dolls, blankets, and baby accessories. Encourage the children to take turns being the parents of baby Isaac. Talk about how important it is to care for a baby and share the responsibilities of taking care of him.
-
Sharing is Caring: Provide the children with a basket of toys and encourage them to share with each other. Talk about how important it is to share and cooperate with others, just like Abraham and Sarah had to work together to take care of baby Isaac.
-
Fair or Unfair: Play a game of “fair or unfair” with the children. Give them different scenarios and ask them if it is fair or unfair. For example, “Is it fair if one child gets all the toys and the other children get none?” Talk about how important it is to treat others fairly, just like God treated Abraham and Sarah fairly by giving them a baby.
Conclusion: Gather the children together and recap the story of Abraham and Sarah and how they had to care for and share the responsibility of taking care of baby Isaac. Talk about how important it is to care for and share with others, and to treat others fairly. End with a prayer thanking God for the gift of babies and for teaching us to care for and share with others.
