Activity: The Birth of Jesus Story Time
Desired Outcome: As I listen to the story of the birth of Jesus, I am developing my understanding of what is fair and unfair and the importance of caring for, sharing and cooperating with others.
Introduction: Gather the children in a circle and introduce the topic of the birth of Jesus. Ask them if they have heard the story before and what they know about it.
Main Activity: Read the story of the birth of Jesus from a children’s Bible or a storybook. As you read, pause to ask questions and encourage the children to share their thoughts and feelings about the story.
After the story, lead a discussion about the themes of fairness, caring, sharing, and cooperation that are present in the story. Ask the children to share examples of how they can apply these themes in their own lives.
Extension Activity: Provide the children with materials to create their own nativity scene. Encourage them to work together and share materials as they create their scene. As they work, ask them to think about how the characters in the nativity story cared for and cooperated with each other.
Conclusion: Gather the children back in a circle and ask them to share what they learned from the story and the activity. Encourage them to continue to think about the themes of fairness, caring, sharing, and cooperation in their daily lives.
