Activity: Lazarus is Resurrected by Jesus
Desired Outcome: As I play and learn, I am developing my understanding of what is fair and unfair and the importance of caring for, sharing and cooperating with others.
Introduction: Begin by introducing the story of Lazarus and Jesus. Explain that Lazarus was a friend of Jesus who had died and was buried in a tomb. Jesus came to visit Lazarus’ sisters, Mary and Martha, and when he saw how sad they were, he decided to bring Lazarus back to life.
Activity: 1. Role-play: Divide the children into groups of three. One child will play the role of Lazarus, one will play the role of Jesus, and one will play the role of Mary or Martha. Encourage the children to act out the story, with Jesus calling Lazarus out of the tomb and Mary and Martha’s reactions.
-
Discussion: After the role-play, ask the children how they felt when Lazarus was brought back to life. Did they think it was fair that Jesus was able to perform such a miracle? Why or why not? Discuss the importance of caring for others and how Jesus showed this by bringing Lazarus back to life.
-
Art activity: Provide the children with paper, crayons, and markers. Ask them to draw a picture of the story of Lazarus and Jesus. Encourage them to include details such as the tomb, Mary and Martha, and Jesus calling Lazarus out of the tomb.
-
Sharing and cooperation: Once the children have finished their drawings, ask them to share their pictures with the group. Encourage them to talk about what they drew and why they chose to include certain details. Emphasize the importance of sharing and cooperating with others.
Conclusion: Wrap up the activity by summarizing the story of Lazarus and Jesus. Ask the children what they learned about fairness, caring for others, and sharing and cooperating with others. Encourage them to think about how they can apply these lessons in their own lives.
