Objective: Students will be able to greet each other in English.
Materials: Greetings Cards (Hello, Hi, Good morning, etc.), Word Cards with English Greetings
Procedure:
-
Teacher introduces the lesson by showing the various cards with different English greetings and asks students to name each card. This can be done in pairs if there is a large class.
-
Next, Teacher introduces basic phrases such as “Hello,” “Hi,” and “Good morning,” while explaining each one and showing pictures of the phrases on the board.
-
To practice, students start in pairs, greeting each other in English. Teacher should encourage students to try saying the phrases in a loud, clear voice.
-
Next, Teacher can create a game where all students stand in a circle and pass the greeting cards around while saying the phrases as they pass it. If a student makes a mistake they are given another chance.
-
As a group, Teacher explains the importance of greetings in English, such as how it is polite to say “hello” when greeting someone.
-
Finally, Teacher asks each student to approach one other student and greet each other in English for a final practice.
Closure: The lesson can end with Teacher asking all of the students to stand up and greet each other in English as a class.
