It was the night of December 31st and Primary 7 pupils were gathering at a friend’s house for a special New Year’s party. Each young person had brought something notable along to contribute to the festivities, such as supplies for games, snacks for all to enjoy, and extra decorations for the room.

The room quickly filled with laughter and chatter as people began to congregate and show off the party supplies they’d brought. Soon, people had begun to start playing board games, spinning a bottle as they laughed and cheered each other on. Others arranged the food and beverages on plates, carefully crafting a display of culinary delights. And in the corner of the room, there was a small but loud group of friends discussing what their resolutions for the year ahead should be.

Every so often, the chatter and noise was drowned out by one of the pupils demanding attention – they had something very special in store. They had planned a huge countdown to kick off the new year and they wanted everyone’s help. In a big rush, they gathered streamers, confetti, noisemakers and balloons; placing then carefully around the room. Then, when everyone returned to their seats, the clock finally reached midnight.

At the sound of each new number being called out, the party erupted. People clapping and blowing noisemakers, shrieking and cheering at the top of their lungs. When the count reached zero, the room filled with a dazzling display of streamers, confetti, and balloons that flew around the room. With a huge round of applause, the party had officially begun.
