Course Plan: Practical Everyday English for Traveling Abroad (A2-B1 Level)
Objective: To equip the student with the necessary language skills and vocabulary to confidently communicate in everyday situations while traveling abroad.
Course Duration: 12 weeks (3 hours per week)
Week 1-2: Introduction to Travel Vocabulary and Basic Expressions - Greetings and introductions - Asking for directions - Ordering food and drinks - Shopping for essentials - Numbers, dates, and time
Week 3-4: Transportation and Accommodation - Vocabulary related to transportation (airports, train stations, etc.) - Booking a hotel or hostel - Asking for information about public transportation - Understanding and using travel-related verbs (arrive, depart, check-in, etc.)
Week 5-6: Eating Out and Socializing - Vocabulary for restaurants and cafes - Ordering food and drinks in different settings - Understanding menus and dietary restrictions - Making small talk and engaging in conversations with locals
Week 7-8: Sightseeing and Tourist Attractions - Describing places and landmarks - Asking for information at tourist information centers - Understanding and using common sightseeing-related vocabulary - Expressing preferences and opinions about tourist attractions
Week 9-10: Dealing with Emergencies and Health Issues - Vocabulary related to medical emergencies - Seeking medical assistance and describing symptoms - Reporting lost items or theft - Understanding and using emergency-related phrases
Week 11-12: Cultural Awareness and Etiquette - Understanding cultural differences and customs - Polite expressions and greetings in different cultures - Appropriate behavior in public places - Tips for respecting local customs and traditions
Note: Throughout the course, emphasis should be placed on listening and speaking skills. Encourage the student to practice through role-plays, dialogues, and real-life scenarios. Additionally, provide opportunities for the student to practice reading and writing through relevant texts, such as travel brochures, menus, and short articles.
Assessment: Regular progress checks should be conducted to evaluate the student’s understanding and application of the learned material. Assessments can include oral presentations, role-plays, written assignments, and quizzes.
