Class Outline:
- Introduction:
This class is designed for hobbyist guitarists starting out on the guitar. We will cover the basics of guitar playing, including tuning, strumming, and basic chords. We will also explore some more advanced techniques, such as fingerpicking and improvisation.
- Tuning:
We will start by learning how to tune the guitar. We will use a digital tuner to ensure that the guitar is in tune. We will also learn how to tune the guitar by ear.
- Strumming:
We will learn the basics of strumming, including downstrokes, upstrokes, and alternate picking. We will also learn how to use a metronome to keep time.
- Chords:
We will learn the basics of chords, including major, minor, and seventh chords. We will also learn how to play barre chords.
- Fingerpicking:
We will learn the basics of fingerpicking, including alternate picking and Travis picking. We will also learn how to use a capo to change the key of a song.
- Improvisation:
We will learn the basics of improvisation, including scales, arpeggios, and chord progressions. We will also learn how to use a looper pedal to create our own backing tracks.
- Activities:
a. Jam Session: We will have a jam session where we will play together as a group. We will use the skills we have learned in the class to create our own music.
b. Songwriting: We will write our own songs using the skills we have learned in the class. We will use the looper pedal to create our own backing tracks.
c. Improvise with a Partner: We will pair up and take turns improvising with each other. We will use the skills we have learned in the class to create our own unique solos.
d. Create a Music Video: We will create our own music video using the skills we have learned in the class. We will use our own instruments and record our own music. We will then edit the video and upload it to YouTube.
