Grade 4 Relay Race Lesson Plan

Objective: Students will work as a team to complete a relay race, improving their communication and teamwork skills.

Materials: Cones, stopwatch, relay baton

Activity 1: Warm-up Relay Race

1. Progression 1: Divide students into teams of four. Each team will line up behind a cone.
2. Progression 2: The first student in each team will run to the end of the relay line and pass the baton to the next student.
3. Progression 3: The last student in each team will run to the front of the line and continue the relay until all students have completed the race.

Activity 2: Obstacle Course Relay Race

1. Progression 1: Set up an obstacle course using cones and other equipment. Divide students into teams of four.
2. Progression 2: The first student in each team will run through the obstacle course and pass the baton to the next student.
3. Progression 3: The last student in each team will run through the obstacle course and finish the relay race.

Activity 3: Blindfolded Relay Race

1. Progression 1: Divide students into teams of four. Blindfold one student in each team.
2. Progression 2: The blindfolded student will be guided by their teammates through the relay race course.
3. Progression 3: The last student in each team will remove the blindfold and complete the relay race.

Closure: Discuss with students the importance of teamwork and communication in completing the relay race. Ask students to reflect on how they worked together and what they could improve on in future team activities.
