Objective: Students will be able to collect data in a controlled setting to measure their cardio respiratory endurance when playing basketball
Materials: -Basketballs -Basketball Court and Hoops -Stop Watch -Paper and Pencils -Heart Rate Monitors (Optional)
Lesson Outline: 1. Introduction and Explanation (10 minutes): -Introduce the lesson topic and explain the importance of monitoring cardio respiratory endurance in basketball players. -Explain the steps for collecting data
-
Warm Up (5 minutes): -Lead students through a dynamic warm-up to get them ready for physical activity.
-
Stations (20 minutes): -Divide students into pairs and send them to the designated station. -Each station should have a basketball and a hoop. -Instruct the student pairs to collect data by having one student shoot hoops while the other times their shots and records the time. -If available, each student should also wear a heart rate monitor to record resting heart rate and active heart rate.
-
Summary (5 minutes): -Establish a common meeting spot and have students discuss their data and take note of which players had the highest/lowest time to make 10 shots. -Discuss how the data may be used to measure a player’s cardio respiratory endurance.
-
Cool Down (5 minutes): -Lead the students in a short cool down session to help them relax and avoid injury.
