Harold Bluetooth was the 10th century King of Denmark and Norway. He was born around 935 AD and ruled in a period known as the Viking Age.

Harold was a fierce warrior, a successful ruler and an enthusiastic Christian. He fought many battles during his reign and was known for his strong alliances and successful diplomacy. He is most famous, however, for successfully uniting the Danes and Norwegians under one crown, giving the two peoples a unified kingdom.

His reign was a period of relative peace and prosperity in the Viking Age, although he was still a militaristic leader, especially against the pagans of Scandinavia. When he converted to Christianity in 960 AD, it was a turning point in Scandinavian history, as Denmark and Norway subsequently became Christian countries.

Harold Bluetooth is also well-known for technologies and innovations he introduced, such as advances in shipbuilding, agriculture and trade. He was also a successful builder and was in charge of building fortifications, churches and other structures throughout his realm.

The name of Bluetooth is actually derived from King Harold’s nickname, ‘Blåtand’ (‘Bluetooth’ in English). This was an apt metaphor for his ability to unite people, even his rivals, using diplomacy and technology.

In modern times, Harold Bluetooth is remembered for the wireless technology known as ‘Bluetooth’ which is used to transfer data between many devices. A logo of King Harold’s initials, used as the logo for the technology, is a nod to his legacy.
