Materials: -Paper -Pencils -Pictures of a Magical Woodland

Procedure: 1. Introduce the concept of a magical woodland realm by reading the following example. “The magical woodland was filled with sprites and fairy folk, dancing around the silver birch trees with their frilled skirts and sapphire wings gleaming in the moonlight.”

1. Ask the students to think of powerful adjectives and show them how to incorporate prepositions to create more interesting descriptions.

2. Have the students write their own description of a magical woodland by using powerful adjectives and prepositions.

3. Once they are finished writing their descriptions, have the students share their work out loud with the class.

4. Point out how powerful adjectives and prepositions can make a description more interesting.

5. Lead a class discussion on the students’ descriptions, focusing on the powerful word choice used.

Closure:

Have the students take out their papers and re-read their descriptions out loud again, this time marvelling at the power of their word choice. Congratulate each student on a job well done!
