Title: Fun with Blending Phonics

Objective: To introduce and reinforce the concept of blending phonics sounds to form words in a fun and engaging way for 3, 5, and 6-year-olds.

Materials: - Flashcards with pictures of simple objects (e.g., cat, dog, hat, sun, etc.) - Letter cards (one set of lowercase letters) - Whiteboard or large paper - Markers or crayons - Small prizes or stickers (optional)

Lesson Plan:

Introduction: 1. Gather the children in a circle and greet them warmly. 2. Begin by asking the children if they know what sounds different letters make. Encourage them to share their knowledge.

Activity 1: Letter Sounds 1. Show the children the letter cards and explain that each card represents a different sound. 2. Go through the letter cards one by one, saying the sound each letter makes. Encourage the children to repeat after you. 3. Play a game where you hold up a letter card, and the children have to make the corresponding sound. Give them praise and encouragement for their efforts.

Activity 2: Blending Sounds 1. Introduce the concept of blending sounds to form words. Explain that when we put sounds together, we can make words. 2. Show the children a flashcard with a picture of an object (e.g., cat). Ask them to identify the object and its initial sound (e.g., /k/ for cat). 3. Break down the word into individual sounds, emphasizing each sound slowly (e.g., /k/ - /a/ - /t/). 4. Ask the children to repeat the sounds after you, and then blend them together to say the word “cat.” 5. Repeat this process with a few more flashcards, gradually increasing the complexity of the words (e.g., dog, hat, sun).

Activity 3: Word Building 1. Divide the children into small groups or pairs. 2. Give each group a set of letter cards. 3. Show a flashcard with a picture and ask the children to identify the initial sound. 4. Instruct the children to find the letter cards that represent the individual sounds and place them in order to form the word. 5. Encourage the children to blend the sounds together to say the word aloud. 6. Provide assistance and guidance as needed. 7. Repeat this activity with different flashcards, allowing each group to take turns.

Conclusion: 1. Gather the children back in a circle. 2. Review the concept of blending sounds to form words. 3. Ask the children to share some of the words they were able to build. 4. Praise their efforts and give small prizes or stickers as a reward (optional). 5. Encourage the children to practice blending sounds at home and have fun with words.

Note: Remember to keep the activities short, engaging, and age-appropriate. Adjust the difficulty level based on the children’s abilities and progress.
