Ask for specific examples of usting commas in sentences. 5. Give each student a handout with a set of sentences that need commas. Ask them to use the rules they have just learned to correctly identify which sentences need commas. 6. Once they have finished, have the students compare answers with a partner. 7. Ask the class to discuss the correct answers, paying close attention to the specific rules they learned. 8. Summarize the main points of the lesson and the specific rules for using commas in sentences. 9. Give the students time to practice their comma usage by writing a short story or other writing sample incorporating the comma rules they just learned. 10. Have students check each other’s stories for accuracy. 11. Wrap up with a general discussion about the importance of commas in grammar.
