Lesson Plan: Skill of Questioning - Area and Circumference of a Circle

Objectives: 1. Students will be able to ask effective questions related to the topic of area and circumference of a circle. 2. Procedure:
- Introduction (5 minutes):
- Begin the lesson by asking the students if they know what a circle is and what its properties are.
- Write down their responses on the whiteboard.
- Explain that today’s lesson will focus on the area and circumference of a circle.
- Prompting and Seeking Further Information (15 minutes):
- Divide the class into small groups of 3-4 students.
- Provide each group with a chart paper and markers.
- Instruct the groups to brainstorm questions related to the area and circumference of a circle.
- Encourage them to think about what they already know and what they would like to know.
- Circulate among the groups to provide guidance and support.
- After 10 minutes, ask each group to share one question they came up with.
- Write down the questions on the whiteboard.
- Refocusing and Redirecting (15 minutes):
- Discuss the questions on the whiteboard as a class.
- Analyze the questions and identify any that need to be refocused or redirected.
- Explain to the students the importance of asking specific and focused questions to increase critical awareness.
- Model how to refocus and redirect a question by choosing one from the list and modifying it.
- Ask the students to work in pairs and choose one question to refocus and redirect.
- Provide feedback and guidance as they work.
- Ask a few pairs to share their refocused questions with the class.
- Application and Practice (10 minutes):
- Provide each student with a worksheet or problem related to finding the area or circumference of a circle.
- Instruct them to solve the problem individually or in pairs.
- Circulate among the students to provide assistance and answer any further questions they may have.
- After completing the worksheet, ask a few students to share their solutions with the class.
- Conclusion (5 minutes):
- Summarize the main points discussed during the lesson.
- Emphasize the importance of asking effective questions to deepen understanding.
- Encourage the students to continue exploring the topic and seeking further information on their own.
