Introduction: Begin the lesson by asking the students if they have ever read a story or watched a movie. Ask them if they can remember any of the characters or where the story took place. Explain that today, they will be learning about two important elements of a story: setting and characters.

Lesson Outline: 1. Define setting: Explain that the setting is where and when the story takes place. Show a picture of a setting and ask the students to describe what they see. 2. Define characters: Explain that characters are the people or animals in the story. Show a picture of a character and ask the students to describe what they see. 3. Read a story: Read a short story to the class and ask them to identify the setting and characters. 4. Group activity: Divide the class into small groups and give each group a different picture of a setting and characters. Ask them to create a short story using the picture as inspiration. 5. Share stories: Have each group share their story with the class and ask them to identify the setting and characters.

Questioning: 1. What is the setting of the story? 2. Who are the characters in the story? 3. Can you describe the setting in the picture? 4. Can you describe the characters in the picture? 5. What happened in the story?

Assessment: Assess the students’ understanding of setting and characters by having them identify the setting and characters in a story or picture.

Differentiation: For students who need extra support, provide them with a worksheet that has pictures of different settings and characters. Have them match the characters to the correct setting. For students who need a challenge, have them create a longer story with more complex characters and settings.

Plenary: Review the lesson by asking the students to share what they learned about setting and characters. Ask them to identify the setting and characters in a story you read earlier in the lesson.
