Lesson Title: Getting to Know Angles

Introduction:

Introduce the students to angles (5 minutes)

Explain what an angle is by using examples and visual aids: “An angle is the shape created when two lines meet or cross. It looks like an L or a corner.” (5 minutes)

Show a few examples (5 minutes)

Introduce 3 different types of angles: acute, obtuse, and right angles (5 minutes)

Lesson Summary:

There are three types of angles, acute, obtuse, and right angles. Acute angles are less than 90 degrees, obtuse angles are more than 90 degrees, and right angles are exactly 90 degrees. In this lesson, we will explore angles further by using examples and resources, and discussing how angles are used in everyday life.

Questioning:

Ask the students to identify the types of angles they see in the examples. Questions can include:

What type of angle is this? (acute, obtuse, or right)

How many degrees is this angle?

What is the difference between an acute and an obtuse angle?

Evaluation:

Assess the students’ understanding and ability to identify angles and their types with a worksheet, quiz, or other assessment.

Differentiation:

Allow the students to work in small groups or pairs, or provide more challenging worksheets for the more advanced students.

Plenary:

Bring the lesson to a close by summarizing the importance of knowing about angles and how it applies to everyday life.
