LESSON PLAN
Objective: To teach proper conversation skills and facilitate the development of the student’s verbal communication.
Materials: Pictures, tokens, objects to use in role-play, whiteboard
Procedures: 1. Introduce the lesson: Explain that today we’re going to learn how to have conversations.

Modeling: Show the student how to start and sustain a conversation, using pictures, objects, or tokens to demonstrate the meaning of what each turn of a conversation could look like or sound like.

Role-play: Have the student practice conversing with you or another student. Use the role-playing technique to allow the student to practice breaking down the conversation down into discrete parts.

Transition practice: Show the student how and when to transition from one topic to another in a conversation.

Monitor: Monitor the student’s progress throughout the conversation and provide positive reinforcement when the student is successful and corrective feedback when the student needs help.

Wrap up: Summarize what was learned and provide any additional instruction needed.
