Lesson Plan for Understanding Gut Health
Time/Activity : 10 min/Introduction Instructor Instruction : During the introduction, the instructor will provide a basic overview of what the lesson is about. This will include topics such as the importance of gut health, the causes of poor gut health, the solutions to improving gut health and what they will be covering during the lesson. The instructor will also ask the participants to share any prior knowledge they have on the subject and why they are interested in learning today.
Time/Activity : 30 min/Lecture Instructor Instruction : The instructor will then provide a lecture on gut health. This will include topics such as the digestive system, the microbiome, and how nutrition affects gut health. The instructor will also discuss the connection between the gut and the immune system, and how food can help support a healthy microbiome.
Time/Activity : 10 min/Solo Activity Instructor Instruction : The participants will then be asked to complete a solo activity. This activity will include watching a short video about gut health and then answering 3-4 questions about what they learned. After the activity, the instructor will ask for feedback from the participants and discuss the answers together.
Time/Activity : 30 min/Group Activity 1 Instructor Instruction : The participants will then be split into groups. Each group will be asked to present a 5 minute presentation on what they learned during the lecture. The instructor will provide the groups with a list of topics to choose from and then give them 10 minutes to prepare. After the presentations, the participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Time/Activity : 30 min/Group Activity 2 Instructor Instruction : The participants will then be split into groups and given a list of pre-prepared grocery items. Each item will have a nutrition label and cost. The participants will be asked to create a shopping list of items to buy that will support gut health within the given budget. The instructor will give the groups 10 minutes to prepare. After the activity, the instructor will ask for feedback from the groups and discuss the items chosen and why.
