Lesson Plan: Leadership in Business

Level: Advanced Conversation-Based ESL Class

Objective: To discuss leadership in business, learn new vocabulary words and idioms, and practice the order of adjectives.

Materials: Whiteboard, markers, handouts with discussion questions, vocabulary words, and idioms.

Warm-up (10 minutes): - Ask students to share their experiences with leadership in their own countries or cultures. - Discuss the qualities of a good leader and ask students to give examples of leaders they admire.

Vocabulary (10 minutes): - Introduce five new vocabulary words related to leadership in business: 1. Visionary 2. Empowerment 3. Accountability 4. Resilience 5. Innovation - Write the words on the board and ask students to guess their meanings. - Provide definitions and examples of how each word is used in a business context.

Grammar Activity (15 minutes): - Explain the order of adjectives in English (opinion, size, age, shape, color, origin, material, purpose). - Provide examples of how to use the order of adjectives in a sentence. - Ask students to work in pairs and create sentences using the order of adjectives.

Discussion Questions (20 minutes): - Provide handouts with five discussion questions related to leadership in business: 1. What are the most important qualities of a good leader in business? 2. How can a leader empower their team to be successful? 3. What are some challenges that leaders face in business? 4. How can a leader foster innovation in their company? 5. What can a leader do to create a positive work culture?

Idioms (5 minutes): - Introduce five idioms related to leadership in business: 1. Lead by example 2. The buck stops here 3. Think outside the box 4. Cut corners 5. Get the ball rolling - Write the idioms on the board and ask students to guess their meanings. - Provide definitions and examples of how each idiom is used in a business context.

Wrap-up (10 minutes): - Ask students to share their thoughts on leadership in business and what they learned from the lesson. - Provide feedback and encourage students to continue practicing their English skills outside of class.

Assessment: - Observe students during the discussion and grammar activity to assess their understanding of the topic and their ability to use the order of adjectives correctly.
