Grade: 5 Subject: Environmental Studies (EVS) Chapter: Every Drop Counts

Objectives: 1. To understand the importance of water conservation. 2. To learn about the various sources of water. 3. To explore the concept of water cycle. 4. To develop an understanding of the need for water conservation practices.

Materials Needed: 1. Textbook: Environmental Studies for Class 5 2. Visual aids: Pictures and diagrams related to water sources and water cycle. 3. Chart paper and markers. 4. Worksheets on water conservation.

Procedure:

Introduction: 1. Begin the lesson by asking students about the importance of water in their daily lives. 2. Discuss the various uses of water, such as drinking, cooking, bathing, washing, etc. 3. Explain that water is a precious resource and it is important to conserve it.

Activity 1: Sources of Water 1. Show pictures of different sources of water, such as rivers, lakes, ponds, wells, etc. 2. Discuss each source and ask students to identify them. 3. Explain how these sources provide water for our daily needs.

Activity 2: Water Cycle 1. Introduce the concept of the water cycle. 2. Use diagrams or visual aids to explain the different stages of the water cycle, such as evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection. 3. Discuss how water gets recycled through the water cycle.

Activity 3: Water Conservation 1. Discuss the importance of water conservation. 2. Brainstorm with students about different ways to conserve water, such as turning off taps when not in use, fixing leaky faucets, using water-efficient appliances, etc. 3. Create a chart on the board or chart paper to list these water conservation practices.

Activity 4: Case Study 1. Provide students with a case study or a real-life example of water scarcity or a community practicing water conservation. 2. Discuss the challenges faced by the community and the measures they have taken to conserve water. 3. Encourage students to think about how they can apply these practices in their own lives.
