Lesson Plan: Art and Design - Three Billy Goats Gruff

Level: Early Level (Nursery and P1)

Learning Intentions: - To explore the story of Three Billy Goats Gruff through art and design activities - To use a range of materials and techniques to express ideas, thoughts and feelings - To communicate ideas and feelings through art and design

Success Criteria: - I can listen to the story of Three Billy Goats Gruff - I can use a range of materials and techniques to create art inspired by the story - I can talk about my art and explain my ideas and feelings

Resources: - The story of Three Billy Goats Gruff - Art materials such as paper, paint, crayons, glue, scissors, etc. - Pictures of goats, trolls, bridges, and other elements from the story - Examples of artwork inspired by the story

Introduction (10 minutes): - Gather the children in a circle and introduce the topic of art and design. - Ask if anyone knows the story of Three Billy Goats Gruff and if they can tell it to the group. - Read the story of Three Billy Goats Gruff to the children, using pictures to help illustrate the story.

Main Activity (30 minutes): - Provide the children with a range of art materials and encourage them to create artwork inspired by the story of Three Billy Goats Gruff. - Show examples of artwork that other children have created, and talk about the different materials and techniques used. - Encourage the children to talk about their ideas and feelings as they work on their art. - Provide support and guidance as needed, helping children to use the materials and techniques effectively.

Plenary (10 minutes): - Gather the children together and ask them to share their artwork with the group. - Encourage each child to talk about their artwork and explain their ideas and feelings. - Ask the children to reflect on what they have learned about art and design, and how they have expressed themselves through their artwork.

Assessment: - Observe the children as they work on their artwork, noting their use of materials and techniques. - Listen to the children as they talk about their artwork, noting their ability to express ideas and feelings. - Review the artwork created by the children, noting the range and quality of their work.
