Lesson Plan: First Day of School for Year 2 Students
Objective: To create a positive and welcoming classroom environment, introduce students to their peers and teacher, and establish routines and expectations.
Materials Needed: - Name tags or labels - Chart paper and markers - Picture books about starting school - Construction paper - Crayons or markers - Scissors - Glue sticks - Classroom rules poster (if available) - Classroom schedule (if available)
Procedure:

Welcome and Introduction (10 minutes) a. Greet students at the door with a smile and introduce yourself. b. Have name tags or labels ready for each student. Help them find their name and stick it on their shirt. c. Ask students to find their assigned seat and sit down.

Icebreaker Activity: “Find a Friend” (15 minutes) a. Explain that it’s important to get to know our classmates and make new friends. b. Model the activity by sharing one interesting fact about yourself. c. Instruct students to stand up and walk around the classroom, introducing themselves to their classmates and finding someone who shares a similar interest. d. Once they find a friend, they should return to their seats together.

Classroom Rules and Expectations (15 minutes) a. Display the classroom rules poster (if available) or write them on chart paper. b. Discuss each rule with the students, explaining why it is important for a positive learning environment. c. Encourage students to ask questions or share their thoughts about the rules. d. Have students repeat each rule after you to reinforce understanding.

Story Time: Picture Books about Starting School (15 minutes) a. Gather students on the carpet or in a circle. b. Read aloud a picture book about starting school, such as “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn or “First Day Jitters” by Julie Danneberg. c. Pause occasionally to ask questions and engage students in discussions about their own feelings and experiences related to starting school.

Classroom Tour and Introduction to Routines (15 minutes) a. Take students on a tour of the classroom, pointing out important areas such as the reading corner, art supplies, and the bathroom. b. Explain daily routines, such as morning meeting, snack time, and dismissal procedures. c.
