Objective: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to define will power and provide easy, practical techniques to employ it.
Materials: Paper, pencil/pen, electronic device, and internet access for students
Introduction (5 minutes):
To begin the lesson, ask your students to answer the question, “What is will power?” Allow students to discuss their answers and encourage class participation. Once they have discussed the various definitions, introduce your own definition. Explain that will power is the strength of mind that allows a person to focus and move forward, despite facing challenges or temptations.
Instructions (15-20 minutes):
Divide the class into small groups. Provide each group with an electronic device, paper and pencils to complete an in-class assignment. Ask each group to research and brainstorm different tips and techniques to help them gain more will-power. Ask them to include activities and helpful habits that could be employed for better focusing, disciplining oneself and staying away from temptations.
Once the students have completed their research, ask each group to report the results of their research. Participate in a class discussion to review the research and results that have been achieved by each student team. Facilitate this discussion by asking your students to elaborate on the techniques they used to research and what lessons they have learned.
Conclusion (5 minutes):
Conclude the lesson by summarizing the information discussed and the techniques that have been shared by the students. Ask the students to discuss any challenges they encountered with their research and help them find solutions. Encourage the students to employ will power to become more self-disciplined and focused in their lives.
