Grade: 7 Subject: English as a Second Language (ESL) Topic: Speaking activity about traveling abroad using the present perfect tense

Objective: - Students will be able to use the present perfect tense to talk about their experiences traveling abroad. - Students will practice speaking and listening skills through a variety of activities related to traveling.

Materials: - Pictures of famous landmarks from around the world - Travel brochures or magazines - Whiteboard or blackboard - Markers or chalk - Handouts with conversation prompts

Warm-up (10 minutes): 1. Begin the lesson by showing pictures of famous landmarks from around the world. 2. Ask students if they recognize any of the landmarks and if they have ever been to any of these places. 3. Encourage students to share their experiences briefly using the present perfect tense. For example, “I have been to the Eiffel Tower in Paris.”

Introduction (5 minutes): 1. Write the present perfect tense on the board and explain that it is used to talk about past experiences or actions that have a connection to the present. 2. Provide examples of sentences using the present perfect tense, such as “I have visited many countries” or “She has never flown in an airplane.”

Activity 1: Travel Brochure (15 minutes): 1. Divide the class into pairs or small groups. 2. Distribute travel brochures or magazines to each group. 3. Instruct students to choose a destination from the brochures and create a conversation using the present perfect tense. 4. Encourage students to discuss their experiences, such as places they have visited, activities they have done, or food they have tried. 5. Monitor the groups and provide assistance as needed.

Activity 2: Famous Landmarks (15 minutes): 1. Show the pictures of famous landmarks again. 2. Ask students to choose a landmark and imagine they have just visited it. 3. Instruct students to write a short paragraph using the present perfect tense to describe their experience. 4. After writing, have students share their paragraphs with a partner or in small groups. 5. Encourage students to ask follow-up questions using the present perfect tense, such as “Have you ever seen the Statue of Liberty?”

Activity 3: Conversation Practice (15 minutes): 1. Provide handouts with conversation prompts related to traveling and the present perfect tense. 2. In pairs or small groups, students take turns asking and answering the questions using the present perfect tense. 3. Encourage students to expand on their answers and ask follow-up questions. 4. Monitor the conversations and provide feedback on grammar and pronunciation.

Wrap-up (5 minutes): 1. Have a class discussion about the importance of traveling and experiencing different cultures. 2. Ask students to share one interesting thing they learned from their partner’s conversation or paragraph. 3. Summarize the use of the present perfect tense and remind students to practice using it in their daily conversations.

Extension Activity: For homework, ask students to write a short journal entry about a place they would like to visit in the future using the present perfect tense. They should describe why they want to go there and what they hope to experience.
