Lesson Plan: Gymnastics for Primary 3 Children

Objective: To introduce primary 3 children to basic gymnastics skills and improve their coordination, balance, and flexibility.

Duration: 45 minutes

Materials Needed: - Gymnastics mats - Balance beams - Hula hoops - Cones - Soft balls - Music player

Warm-up (5 minutes): 1. Start with a light jog around the gym to warm up the muscles. 2. Followed by stretching exercises to improve flexibility, such as arm circles, leg swings, and toe touches.

Station 1: Balance Beam (10 minutes): 1. Divide the children into small groups and assign each group to a balance beam. 2. Instruct the children to walk on the balance beam, keeping their arms out to the sides for balance. 3. Encourage them to try walking backward and sideways on the beam. 4. For an added challenge, place cones along the beam and ask the children to step over them while maintaining balance.

Station 2: Floor Exercises (10 minutes): 1. Set up mats in a designated area for floor exercises. 2. Teach the children basic gymnastics moves, such as forward rolls, backward rolls, and cartwheels. 3. Demonstrate each move and provide individual assistance as needed. 4. Encourage the children to practice the moves and offer positive feedback.

Station 3: Hula Hoop Fun (10 minutes): 1. Place hula hoops on the floor in a scattered pattern. 2. Instruct the children to jump from one hoop to another, trying to keep their feet inside the hoop. 3. Play upbeat music to make it more enjoyable. 4. Gradually increase the difficulty by reducing the number of hoops or making the hoops smaller.

Station 4: Ball Toss (10 minutes): 1. Provide each child with a soft ball. 2. Set up a target area using cones or mats. 3. Instruct the children to stand a few feet away from the target and practice throwing the ball towards it. 4. Encourage them to aim for the target and try different throwing techniques, such as overhand and underhand throws.

Cool-down (5 minutes): 1. Lead the children through a series of gentle stretches to cool down their muscles. 2. Emphasize the importance of stretching after physical activity to prevent injuries.

Closure: 1. Gather the children together and ask them to share their favorite activity from the lesson. 2. Recap the key skills they learned, such as balance, coordination, and flexibility. 3. Encourage them to practice these skills at home or during recess.

Note: It is important to ensure the safety of the children during the lesson. Provide proper supervision and modify activities as needed to suit the abilities of the children.
