Introduction (5 minutes): 1. Greet the students and explain the topic of the lesson: Food and Health. 2. Ask the students if they know why food is important for our health and wellbeing. 3. Engage the students in a brief discussion about the importance of food and its impact on our bodies.
Main Activities:
Activity 1: Nutritional Needs (15 minutes) 1. Divide the students into small groups. 2. Provide each group with handouts containing information about different life stages (e.g., childhood, adolescence, adulthood, old age) and lifestyle factors (e.g., physical activity, pregnancy). 3. Instruct the groups to discuss and identify how these life stages and lifestyle factors can impact people’s nutritional needs. 4. Ask each group to present their findings to the class.
Activity 2: Meeting Nutritional Needs (20 minutes) 1. Display pictures or posters of different food groups on the whiteboard. 2. Explain the concept of a balanced diet and the importance of consuming foods from each food group. 3. Discuss the recommended daily servings for each food group and the nutrients they provide. 4. Show examples of meals or snacks that meet the nutritional needs of different life stages or lifestyles. 5. Engage the students in a discussion about how they can ensure their own nutritional needs are met.
Activity 3: Case Study (15 minutes) 1. Provide the students with a case study of a fictional character (e.g., a teenager who is involved in sports or a pregnant woman). 2. Instruct the students to analyze the character’s lifestyle or life stage and identify their specific nutritional needs. 3. Ask the students to create a meal plan that meets the character’s nutritional needs. 4. Allow the students to share their meal plans and discuss the reasoning behind their choices.
Conclusion (5 minutes): 1. Recap the main points discussed during the lesson. 2. Ask the students to reflect on how their own lifestyle or life stage can impact their nutritional needs. 3. Emphasize the importance of making healthy food choices to meet these needs. 4. Provide an opportunity for any final questions or clarifications.
