Lesson Plan: Writing with Prepositions

Subject: Languages

Topic: Writing

Level: First Level

Desired Outcome: I can write independently, use appropriate punctuation and order and link my sentences in a way that makes sense.

Focus: Prepositions

Introduction (10 minutes)

  1. Begin the lesson by asking the students if they know what prepositions are.
  2. Explain that prepositions are words that show the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other words in a sentence.
  3. Give examples of prepositions such as in, on, under, over, beside, etc.
  4. Ask the students to give examples of sentences that use prepositions.

Main Activity (30 minutes)

  1. Provide the students with a list of prepositions and ask them to write a short paragraph using at least five prepositions.
  2. Encourage the students to use descriptive words and phrases to make their writing more interesting.
  3. Remind the students to use appropriate punctuation and to order and link their sentences in a way that makes sense.
  4. Allow the students to work independently or in pairs to complete the task.
  5. Circulate around the room to provide support and guidance as needed.

Plenary (10 minutes)

  1. Ask the students to share their writing with the class.
  2. Encourage the students to listen carefully to each other’s writing and to provide feedback.
  3. Highlight examples of good use of prepositions, appropriate punctuation, and well-ordered and linked sentences.
  4. Provide constructive feedback to the students on areas for improvement.

Assessment

  1. Assess the students’ writing based on their use of prepositions, appropriate punctuation, and well-ordered and linked sentences.
  2. Provide feedback to the students on areas for improvement and areas of strength.
  3. Use the assessment to inform future lesson planning and to identify areas where additional support may be needed.

Homework

  1. Ask the students to write a short paragraph using at least five prepositions.
  2. Encourage the students to use descriptive words and phrases to make their writing more interesting.
  3. Remind the students to use appropriate punctuation and to order and link their sentences in a way that makes sense.
  4. Collect the homework at the next lesson for assessment.
