Materials

• Posters with various Scottish locations • Sticky notes • Internet-connected devices • Variety of listening resources: videos, documentaries, news clips, stories, etc. • Scrap paper and pen/pencil

Activities

  1. Introduction (5 minutes) • Greet students and gather their attention. • Depending on the class size and age level, either choose a few students to present or brief the whole class about listening and talking activities. • Explain the objectives for the lesson and ask the class if they have any questions.

  2. Listening practice (15 minutes) • Pass out sticky notes to each student and ask them to write a short sentence about their favorite Scottish locations. • Ask the students to share their sentences and explain why they chose the location. • Show the class a variety of different listening resources, explaining that these sources can help them better understand new language and grammar rules. • Ask the students to focus on their favorite listening resource and write down their thoughts on scrap paper.

  3. Talking practice (15 minutes) • Invite the students to share with the class what they learned from the listening resources. • Ask the students to explain why they prefer certain sources and provide examples of how they can be used to improve their language and grammar skills. • Lead a class discussion on the various sources and allow the students to explain why they like certain resources more than others.

  4. Wrap-up (5 minutes) • Thank the class for their participation. • Review the objectives for the lesson. • Ask the students if they had any questions. • Hand out feedback forms for the students to complete and return at the end of the lesson.

Evaluation

• Encourage the students to assess their understanding of the lesson objectives and to parttake in class discussions.

• Students can also be assessed by informal observation from the instructor or through the use of assessment forms.
