Introduction (10 minutes):
- Begin by asking the students if they know what prepositions are and how they are used in writing.
- Introduce the concept of prepositions and provide examples of common prepositions (e.g. in, on, at, under, over, etc.).
- Distribute the handout on prepositions and review the examples with the class.
Activity 1: Writing with Prepositions (20 minutes):
- Provide the students with a writing prompt that includes prepositions (e.g. “Write a paragraph about your favourite place to go on vacation. Use at least three prepositions in your writing.”).
- Allow the students time to write their paragraphs, using prepositions accurately.
- Circulate around the room to provide support and guidance as needed.
Activity 2: Editing for Accuracy (20 minutes):
- Provide the students with a rubric for self-assessment that includes criteria for spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
- Instruct the students to review their writing and check for accuracy and clarity.
- Encourage the students to use their knowledge of prepositions to check for errors.
- Allow the students time to make corrections and revisions to their writing.
Conclusion (10 minutes):
- Ask the students to share their writing with the class.
- Provide feedback on the accuracy and clarity of their writing.
- Review the success criteria and ask the students to reflect on their learning.
- Encourage the students to continue to use prepositions accurately in their writing.
