Lesson Plan: Writing with the Present Simple Tense

Level: Second Level

Desired Outcome: I use the support of others and access appropriate reference materials of my choice to help me plan my writing in ways that engage my reader, using ICT when appropriate.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand the present simple tense and its usage in writing.
  2. Plan and write a short paragraph using the present simple tense.
  3. Use appropriate reference materials and ICT tools to enhance their writing.

Resources:

  1. Whiteboard and markers
  2. Handouts on the present simple tense
  3. Writing prompts
  4. ICT tools such as laptops or tablets

Introduction (10 minutes):

  1. Begin the lesson by asking the learners if they know what the present simple tense is and how it is used in writing.
  2. Introduce the concept of the present simple tense and its usage in writing.
  3. Provide examples of sentences in the present simple tense and ask the learners to identify the tense.

Main Activity (30 minutes):

  1. Distribute handouts on the present simple tense and explain the rules of usage.
  2. Provide writing prompts that require the use of the present simple tense.
  3. Ask the learners to plan and write a short paragraph using the present simple tense.
  4. Encourage the learners to use appropriate reference materials and ICT tools to enhance their writing.
  5. Monitor the learners’ progress and provide feedback and support as needed.

Plenary (10 minutes):

  1. Ask the learners to share their writing with the class.
  2. Provide feedback on their use of the present simple tense and their overall writing skills.
  3. Encourage the learners to continue practicing their writing skills and using the present simple tense in their writing.

Assessment:

Assessment will be based on the learners’ ability to plan and write a short paragraph using the present simple tense, as well as their use of appropriate reference materials and ICT tools to enhance their writing. Feedback will be provided throughout the lesson to support their learning and development.
