Resources:

  • Pictures of Arctic animals and landscapes
  • Writing prompts related to Arctic
  • Writing templates
  • Pencils, erasers, and markers

Introduction (10 minutes):

  • Show pictures of Arctic animals and landscapes to the students and ask them to describe what they see.
  • Ask the students if they have ever written about Arctic animals or landscapes before.
  • Introduce the topic of writing in Arctic and explain the desired outcome of the lesson.

Main Activity (30 minutes):

  • Provide the students with writing prompts related to Arctic, such as “Describe your favorite Arctic animal” or “Write a story about a journey through the Arctic.”
  • Allow the students to choose a writing prompt and provide them with a writing template to help them organize their thoughts.
  • Encourage the students to use appropriate punctuation and order and link their sentences in a way that makes sense.
  • Circulate around the room to provide support and feedback to the students as they write.

Plenary (10 minutes):

  • Ask the students to share their writing with the class.
  • Provide feedback on the students’ use of appropriate punctuation and order and link their sentences in a way that makes sense.
  • Encourage the students to continue practicing their writing skills and to explore different types of writing.

Assessment:

  • Observe the students as they write and provide feedback on their use of appropriate punctuation and order and link their sentences in a way that makes sense.
  • Review the students’ writing to assess their ability to convey information, describe events, explain processes or combine ideas in different ways.
